Community Projects
The low cost of the materials, ease of forming with simple tools, wide range of colours and decorative techniques possible along with the durability and permanence of the finished product make ceramics an ideal medium for community arts and heritage projects.
541 individual tiles commemorating the miners killed in the two Universal Colliery Disasters created in school and community workshops at the Senghenydd Heritage Centre. With each one individually sponsored for £50 these tiles provided a total of £27,000 of match funding for a heritage lottery grant which made a significant contribution to the cost of the Wales National Mining Memorial.
